Monday Mashup: Pink Doublemint

Monday MashupThis Monday’s organic tea concoction kept it cool with a combination of our premium Moroccan Mint and Hibuscus Mint teas at a 1:1 ratio. With Texas summer in full swing, we opted to ice our Monday Mashup, and the result was just as refreshing as we’d expected. The icy, palate-cleansing sensations of the fair trade mint tea balanced out the tart and sweet flavors of the hibiscus flower for a truly top-notch summer beverage.

We’re looking forward to blending the same duo together as Ausitn’s “winter” rolls around (we get one of those, right?) and expect that exciting hot/cold sensation as we sip our Pink Doublemint hot tea. So, with our next Mashup just a week away, what new Zhi tea should we cook up? You name it, we’ll try it!

Fashionably Tea

There’s nothing like high fashion to get a delicious beverage trending. Designer Marc Jacobs teamed up with The Landmark Oriental Hotel to offer an exclusive and luxurious tea experience inspired by Jacobs’ Lindy handbag.
It’s yet another example of the artistic nature of premium tea. We think Zhi’s organic Earl Grey Choice fair-trade tea would go great with the Lindy bag, but we’d hate to stop there! Tea, like fashion, is totally transformative; together, they’re practically unstoppable.

And we know the feeling of sipping your favorite summer iced tea as you lounge around the porch in late August in your seer-sucker dress or button-down. The combination of the perfect look and the perfect drink makes all the difference.

So, who is your favorite fashion designer, and which Zhi Tea best represents their brand? We’d love to hear all about your tea and fashion pairings!

Tea and Your Health: Diabetes

More than two-thirds of the adult population in the United States is overweight or obese. Because weight is a risk factor for diabetes, the US Department of Agriculture is spending significant time and money studying soaring incident rates. Can tea help address the serious health concerns of weight management and diabetes?

In 2007, the USDA shared preliminary findings that showed tea to reduce risk of type 2 diabetes. This year, researchers in London completed another study that shows similar claims. Specifically, their research cites that 4 cups or more of tea a day lowers one’s risk of diabetes by 20%. Read more about the details of the study here.

Interestingly, 3 cups or fewer a day did not lower a subject’s risk of diabetes. Our take? Don’t stop at 3 cups! As we have yet to find a study documenting harmful effects of tea consumption, we will continue to imbibe with enthusiasm.

Note: Consumers worldwide are being offered a plethora of ready-to-drink “teas” that market their ability to reduce weight. While Zhi has seen our share of success stories, we can’t claim that tea is a magic bullet. We suggest realistic expectations when confronted with such “tea-washing.” We also look forward to more studies on this important finding.

Monday Mashup: Cooling Jasmine Rose Tea

For today’s Monday Mashup, we opted for a refreshing floral combo of our fair trade organic Saigon Rose and Jasmine Green teas at a 1:1 ratio. In light of the 100º+ weather here in Austin, Texas, we made this mashup iced, and it was fantastic.

The premium tea blend is crisp and citrusy, with the lemongrass notes of Saigon Rose offering a palate-cleansing effect that’s truly perfect for summer. Golden in hue and bursting with flavor, Cooling Jasmine Rose can also be enjoyed as a delicious hot beverage, alone or with a hint of honey.

Loving Lady Lavender

We’ve proclaimed iced tea the beverage of the season; and this week, we’re all about Lady Lavender white tea, one of Zhi Tea’s premium summer specials. The subtle hint of sweet florals make this brew the perfect candidate for a refreshing organic beverage, tasty even without any added sweeteners.

Plus, lavender has that delightful cleansing feeling that we crave on these blistering hot afternoons. Did you know the word lavender comes from the Latin lavare, “to wash”? For a truly invigorating experience, this is truly a wonderful pick.

The tea is comprised solely of Oothu white tea and our organic and aromatic lavender flowers – no flavors added. The taste is light and simple, the perfect combination to cool you off and soothe your soul.

Monday Mashup: Mounds of Chai

Today marks Zhi Tea’s first documented mix and match experiment: the Monday Mashup. You can look forward to these creative premium tea combos and draw some inspiration for your own custom blends.

We were having a bit of a candy craving today, which became our inspiration for this week’s Monday Mashup. We mixed together our Coconut Chai and our Cacao Chai teas at about a 50/50 ratio to create what we’ve aptly named Mounds of Chai tea after the classic candy bar.

The refreshing blend marries our favorite dark chocolate and organic coconut flavors in a refreshing beverage that can be enjoyed alone or with organic milk and Fair Trade sugar for that true candy essence.

Try mixing the two at home to make an organic chai latte or a pure premium cup of tea, and let us know what you think! If you’ve mixed up other Zhi Teas and discovered the magic of blending, shoot us a suggestion for next week’s Monday Mashup, and your tea invention may be featured right here on the Zhi blog.

Tune in next Monday for another exciting Mashup and see what teas will join forces!
